Arriving late at night in Malaga: transport and 24h check-in

If you're arriving late at night in Malaga, bear this in mind: the last commuter train from the airport to the centre leaves at around 00:50, the last one towards Torremolinos and Benalmádena at around 23:40, and the A Express bus runs until roughly midnight. After that, the safe option is a taxi (night minimum fare from the airport of €22.48 or €25.80 depending on the day, plus a €2.23 surcharge between 00:00 and 06:00) or an Uber-style ride-hailing app.

The good news is that with Nordik's 24-hour self check-in you don't have to let anyone know, pay a late check-in fee or rush to make it before a reception desk closes: you let yourself in with your code, whatever the time. This guide helps you plan your arrival night with real data.

Arriving late in Malaga: what transport runs

Málaga-Costa del Sol airport gets late-night flights almost all year round, especially from the UK, the Netherlands, Germany and the Nordic countries. Here's the picture, time slot by time slot. Figures are approximate as of October 2026: Renfe and EMT change timetables for the season, engineering works or events.

The last train from Malaga airport

The C-1 commuter line (Cercanías) is the fastest way from the airport to the centre (about 12 minutes to Málaga Centro-Alameda, roughly €1.80). At night, frequency drops to one train every 30 minutes.

  • To Málaga Centro: the last train calls at the airport at around 00:50.
  • To Torremolinos, Benalmádena and Fuengirola: the last one leaves at around 23:40.

Our practical advice: if your flight lands after 23:30 and you're heading to the centre (or after 22:45 for the Costa del Sol), don't count on the train. Getting off the plane, through passport control and collecting your bags can easily take 30–45 minutes, and a 20-minute delay leaves you stranded. Always check at renfe.com.

Night buses from Malaga airport

A Express line

EMT's line A (€4) links arrivals with the bus station, the Alameda and Paseo del Parque. It runs until roughly midnight and, in some seasons, has the odd departure in the early hours. Because those departures vary, don't plan your arrival around them without checking on the day at emtmalaga.es or in the EMT app.

EMT night buses within the city

EMT runs night routes within the city, such as the N1 between Puerta Blanca, the Alameda and El Palo, but they don't leave from the airport. They might help if you reach the centre in the small hours and are heading east, although with luggage at that time of night a taxi is usually worth it.

Intercity coaches

Intercity coaches leave the airport for Marbella, Estepona, Nerja, Granada and Seville, but their last departures are usually before midnight and they don't serve Torremolinos or Benalmádena well. In the early hours they're not a realistic option.

Late-night taxis at Malaga airport

The taxi rank is right outside arrivals and operates all night, although there can be a queue when several late flights land together. Official Malaga City Council fares for journeys from the airport (updated in March 2026):

  • Weekday night rate and weekend daytime rate: minimum fare €22.48.
  • Friday, Saturday, Sunday and public-holiday-eve nights: minimum fare €25.80.
  • Night surcharge: €2.23 from 00:00 to 06:00.
  • Luggage: €0.58 per bag in the boot.

With those figures, a late-night taxi to central Malaga usually comes to around €25–32, similar to Torremolinos, and a little more to Pedregalejo or Benalmádena (roughly €32–42). These are estimates: the meter has the final say. More information on Aena's official taxi page.

Uber and other apps late at night

Ride-hailing apps (Uber, Cabify, Bolt) run through the night, with pick-up in the arrivals car park. The fixed price is a plus, but when lots of flights land, surge pricing can beat the taxi fare. Open both options as you walk out and decide there and then.

Pre-booked private transfer

If you're landing at 2:00 with children or lots of luggage, booking a transfer with a driver waiting for you takes one worry off your mind. Give them your flight number so they can track any delays.

Hire car if you arrive late at night

If you've booked a car, check the desk's opening hours before you fly. Companies with a desk inside the terminal usually serve late flights, but many that run a shuttle from an off-site car park close at night or charge an out-of-hours fee. Always add your flight number to the booking so they take delays into account.

Something else we often mention to our guests: parking in Malaga's historic centre at 2:00 is tricky, because much of it is pedestrianised or restricted-access. If you're staying in the centre, consider picking the car up the next day or booking a space in a nearby public car park. In Pedregalejo, Torremolinos or Benalmádena street parking is usually easier, though it gets harder in summer too. Ask us on WhatsApp what makes sense for your accommodation.

Why 24-hour self check-in solves late arrivals

Many places with a reception desk charge a late check-in fee or make you give hours of notice so someone can wait for you with the keys. If your flight is delayed, the midnight calls and messages begin. Nordik works differently:

  • No reception and no key handover: you get your code or Nordikey before you arrive.
  • No late check-in fees: it doesn't matter whether you arrive at 21:00 or 3:00.
  • No timings to coordinate: if your flight is delayed, you don't have to tell anyone to wait for you.
  • 24/7 WhatsApp support: if anything goes wrong getting in, there's someone on the other end, even in the small hours.

The only thing you need to do beforehand is complete the online guest registration, which is mandatory in Spain, to receive your access. We walk you through it in how Nordik keyless access works.

Checklist for your arrival night

  1. Complete the guest registration before you fly and check you have your access code.
  2. Save the exact address and the code offline, in case you run out of battery or data.
  3. Charge your phone on the plane or bring a power bank.
  4. Check the time of the last train before boarding and keep a taxi as plan B.
  5. Keep the support WhatsApp handy — we send it with your booking.
  6. Bring a snack: at 2:00 almost everything is closed, apart from the odd convenience store in the centre.

Convenient places to stay for late arrivals

  • Torremolinos: the Nuuk apartment in Torremolinos is about 15 minutes by taxi from the airport, ideal for flights landing in the early hours.
  • Centre: Oslo, for two guests, puts you right in the centre to wake up and head out for breakfast.
  • Trinidad: Eide, in Trinidad, a few minutes by taxi from the centre and easy to reach from the ring road.
  • Pedregalejo: if you're travelling as a family, Kuopio in Pedregalejo (sleeps 4) is waiting for you by the seafront promenade.

FAQ

What time is the last train from Malaga airport?

The last C-1 commuter train to Málaga Centro-Alameda calls at the airport at around 00:50, and the last one towards Torremolinos, Benalmádena and Fuengirola at around 23:40. At night there's one train every 30 minutes. Renfe changes timetables for the season or engineering works, so check renfe.com on the day you travel.

How much is a night taxi from Malaga airport to the city centre?

In the early hours, taxis from the airport apply a minimum fare of €22.48 or €25.80 depending on the day, plus a €2.23 night surcharge between 00:00 and 06:00 and €0.58 per bag in the boot. In practice, a ride to the centre usually costs €25–32, although the meter sets the final amount.

Can I check in at 3 am in Malaga?

With 24-hour self check-in, as at Nordik, yes: you receive your access code before you arrive and can let yourself in at any time, with no reception and no late check-in fee. You just need to have completed the online guest registration, which is mandatory in Spain. At hotels or guesthouses with a reception desk, check their hours and any surcharges first.

Is it safe to arrive in Malaga at night?

Malaga is a calm city and the airport operates normally all night, with a supervised taxi rank and a signposted ride-hailing pick-up area. The sensible approach is not to wait for public transport that might not come, go straight to your accommodation by taxi or Uber, and keep the address and access code saved so you don't depend on mobile data.

What if my flight to Malaga is delayed and I arrive later than planned?

With keyless entry you don't need to tell anyone to wait for you: your code still works whenever you arrive. Check whether you can still make the last commuter train and, if not, take a taxi or Uber. If you need anything, message Nordik's 24/7 WhatsApp support. Keep proof of the delay in case you claim from the airline.
